The transport sector requires a digital transformation based on new technologies to improve the safety and efficiency of their fleets.
The digital transformation of the transport sector in Mexico has already begun. However, there are still challenges ahead to ensure more fleets embrace the technological revolution.
“Trucking companies are gradually adopting technological tools to help them achieve more productive and safer fleets, not only for their drivers, but also for their vehicles and other road users. Companies are resorting to telematic solutions, which manage GPS data, and telemetric analysis to aid fleet managers. Early adopters of this technology were fleet owners who are part of the National Association of Private Transport (ANTP in Spanish). Other trucking companies soon followed suit,” says Mr. Eduardo Allegre, CEO of Métrica Móvil.
Métrica Móvil offers technology solutions for location, Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) and quayside time optimization for companies that are set in industrial parks, warehouses and distribution centers.
“Nearshoring is forcing companies to adopt new technologies to help them monitor loading and unloading times for their goods. These new systems generate data and cross-reference it and, through a data connector, obtain performance indicators to improve their loading and unloading functions,” mentions Mr. Eduardo Allegre.
The use of technology in the transport sector has proven to avoid situations which endanger human life, logistic complications such as delays and, of course, unnecessary expenditures. The cost of an accident ranges between MXN31,148 and MXN1,249,500, according to a recent study by Métrica Móvil.
The pandemic and the war on Ukraine, which broke the supply chains due to insufficiencies in vehicle fleets, forced Mexican trucking companies to start looking into digitalization solutions to maximize their fleet’s performance. Digital solutions use preventative maintenance and communication within the different systems of the company. Everything is managed through a single platform, and this is what Métrica Móvil offers. We offer our clients AI solutions to help operators and identify potential hazards. We help them build a technological ecosystem using hardware (cameras and sensors) and software (integration of SAP, Oracle or in-house solutions).
The CEO points out that the growth of the world market has made trucking companies more relevant in the global business arena. Companies will use any kind of vehicle to distribute their goods and services, and are looking for innovative and greener options to reduce their carbon footprint.
“Trucking companies need to go digital to operate in real time, facilitate decision-making and become greener,” concludes Mr. Allegre.
